I have to disagree with
the notion that we learn
something new every day.

I think I’ve had several
days in a row where I haven’t
learned anything and even
forgotten some things.

I’m study-cramming tonight
for a world myth exam tomorrow
I sure hope I do well =o)

Scott was 18.01 years old when he wrote this!

Jee wiz! It’s been, what, 2 days since my last writing here? Can you believe it?! Actually, it’s because I’ve been very busy. I’ve been actively engaged in beneficial activities that will help my future and help me grow as a person. (mainly along the lines of watching anime and playing yahoo pool). I need to get back to my old blogwriting style baby! I used to have a blast writing these things a year or two ago. They were fun to write and even more fun to read. Throw in some humor, irony, and stupidity – and bang! I then made them serious because certain [idiots] put too much into the words I spoke and distorted my words to mean thigns that just… grr… it’s in the past.

I think I might comment on an issue I get a lot of questions and comments about. Everyone who spends more than 30 seconds on my site seems to have their own opinions on the subject. So, I figure I’d come on out and clear it up for you. Just what is this topic everyone wonders about? It’s about the reproductive cycle of algae. Laugh dangit! That was a joke! Actually, I’m talking about Asian women. Someone came up to me today (on IM anyway) and was like “Scott, why don’t you post something on your site other than pictures of asian women!” The funny thing was, I didn’t even realize I did that until he said it. I loaded up my site, scrolled down, and in shock I suddenly realized he was right! How could I not have noticed?!? What is up w/ that? I don’t want to ramble on thing I’ve already ranted about, but in a nutshell it’s nothing ’serious’, I just think the eyes are cool. I’ve been watching lots of Asian movies lately, which is where most of the images come from I use on this blog. I joke a lot about Asian women and stuff but really there’s not much there. If you want details, I think I wrote about it in the “about scott” area. So, I hope that’s cleared up.

My mom and both sisters are in Vermont this week. Why? dunno. They just wanted a vacation or somethin’ like that. Anyhow, I’m here alone a lot. I don’t notice it much though, because even while they’re here I do most of my work in my room. This week, I’m working on a project for work. It’s a side-project the company wants to work on, and I’m (at the moment) the only software writer for it. It’s using microsoft .net programming, so every time I get off of the comptuer I feel like I need to wash my hands or something. Anyway, it’s what I’m going to try to work on for the next few days. Genearal deadline is 2 weeks, so I’ll see what I can do. I got a computer for the project too! I brought it home since I do a lot of work from here and my mom took my laptop on her trip. It’s working out nicely! I now have a decent windows computer to work with. I forsee myself lugging it back and forth to and from work for the next few days.

Yes! I’m still working on this site! But work is slow. There are so many things on higher priority in my life at the moment. I’ll be added sections here and there and I have plans for redesigning the start page (so it’s not a big blog when you first go to the site). It’s all in my mind now, and it’ll probably stay there for a while. Once it’s tumbled around and smoothed nicely, I’ll put my thoughts into actions and plans into work. As I change things, comments are welcome. I like to know what people think about my stuff!

And with that, I’d best be off. Oh yeah, the picture is random. Really. I google image searched for the word “random” and that popped up. It’s not a picture of an asian woman, so there! =op

bua ha ha ha ha ha! I’m writing this through links through a ssh tunnel over my lan through a [x] connection I’ve made to my router using a [x] program from a school computer that has all execs and downloads blocked and java disabled. bua ha ha ha ha! Office XP is installed – and it’s so insecure XD Well, if nothing else, I have ssh access to my entire lan from school, I’ll be able to work on stuff over lunch! Ok, I’m out – got it working just in time to write this – now I’m off to my next class.

note: no, I dont REALLY think of hacking a school computer as ‘a really big thing’ ;-) I’m just relieved

I remember being young thinking “how will I feel when I turn 18?”

Well, I’m very happy =o)

Misia remembered my birthday ^_^

Scott was 17.99 years old when he wrote this!

yeah, I know, I never thought I’d be posting a picture of anybody actually running on my website, but it’s hard not to with the second post of today. Few of the things I write about can be expressed in an image, so to add color to a site with images, there is little more you can choose from than the movies you have. This shot is from a movie I saw today entitled “Run Lola Run” (english translated title anyway). The movie was German, filmed in Germany, and spoken in German. No, this is not an Asian film ghasp Yes, that woman has some crazy red hair.

I’ve been getting a weiird thing lately I’m unsure what to do about it at the moment. It’s people. Now, if I’ve met you, and if I’ve seen you before, this really doesn’t apply to you. However, so many people come up to me completely out of the blue and expect me to do things for them. Make a layout for their website, teach them how to use photoshop, tell them where they can download 3dsmax, or write them a tutorial about how to do something. They could just go to google and type in their question and get an answer, but they find some sort of sick comfort in asking ME. They dont want to spend 30 seconds researching. They’d ratehr spend 20 minutes trying to get me to explain it -_- I’m going to start completely ignoring people I don’t know in person (with few exceptions) The total strangers that stumble upon my site can be really bad at this, they’ll im me, small talk for 20 or 30 seconds, then ask me to teach them something. grr. It’s nice when once in a blue moon I’ll get a stranger come up and, I dont know, say something nice to me with NO INTENTION OF USING ME!! ok, i’m getting out of hand. New paragraph.

Like I said, if I know you, think twice before bugging me about something if it’s really easy to figure out, but if you have a genuine question, feel free to ask. If you’re a stranger, IM me while you can, because shortly I’m going to put my IM list on the “block everyone not on your buddy list” section. I’m not saying I dont want to talk to you, I’m just saying send me an email so I can add you to my list, and be good, because it’ll be easy to snip snip you out of it.

I went to work today. I was up fairly late last night. “That guy” ended up sleeping here since it was so late when the movies were over. Around 2:30ish I went to sleep, but I woke up around 4 and couldn’t go back to sleep for an hour or so. Then I woke up at 6:30 to start getting ready so we could be out the door by 7. Had to take Kelly (sister, 15) to a cross country practice -_- Then it was off to school pictures /shrug/ Who’d have thought homeschoolers take school pictures for a homeschool yearbook. I’m going to laugh when it comes. I”ll open it up, find myself, say “what a horrible picture”, look at everyone else in the book, and not have ever seen but 2 or 3 of them ^_^; I got to work around 9:45 (I normally get there around 8:30 or 9). I didn’t mention why I was later than normal, I always feel like when I walk in there I sound like I have some lame excuse for why I was late or didn’t show up the previous workday /shrug/ It’s a little harder now, I go in to work only a couple days a week. It feels distant and sluggish, very hard to get things done. My “long-term project” was handed to someone else who’s there full time (quite understandably) and I really dont want to try to even keep up with it because by the time I catch up on all the things I’ve missed the last 4 days, it’s already time to go home. Ehh, it’s weird. At the moment I’m “tending the website”, which is pretty interesting, since I wrote it to need zero tending ^_^;

Oh yeah! The movie. You know how a movie will have a fast paced part in it that raises your heart beat and makes you sweat? This movie was 2 hours of nothing but that. I got done with it and literally I had a ring of sweat around my neck. (the hot room also has something to do with it) Anyway, it was a good movie, I really enjoyed it, though I wouldn’t suggest it to people who don’t like redundancy in movies. (1/2 the movie is repeated scenes, on purpose, it’s part of the plot)

Well I’m being called. Screamed. Yelled. In the most polite way of course. I have many things to do. I write between these things, and I enjoy it. I sometimes talk on IM between these things, but people who try to take advantage of me through it… no i will not make a layout! no I will not download your mp3. No I will not tell you how to use anything other than kazaa. GO AWAY! grr, dont get me started.

heh, I’m in a bad mood at the time of this writing, can you tell?!? jeez. Tomorrow should be better, I go to school tomorrow. Class seems to put the slight distance between myself and my home that makes everything seem less severe.

note: top image is from Run Lola Run, the second is something I found google imagesearching for the word ‘weird’

Ring 2

Wow, now there’s a good movie! I watched “Ring” and “Ring 2″, the Japanese movies that were copied (some parts scene by scene) by the Americans to make a movie with the creative title “THE Ring” But first, I have to back up a sec.

Yes, that’s right. I didn’t post for a few days. Yes, for all of you who send me email, I’m still alive. I went on a last-minute (to me) trip to my grandparents house 4 hours away. I got back yesterday but didn’t find time to write. At the moment, I’m having my “lunch break” at work, about to start again in a few minutes, so I’ll make it speedy.

A guy came over yesterday to watch Ring and Ring 2. He’s seen the American “The Ring” (I have not) so I was curious as to his reaction. The first movie was familiar and predictable, since he practically already saw it. So we made jokes and stuff to lighten the mood. The second one was when it got serious. No talking, lights out, fan on low, surround sound on, woo! It’s hard to tell what people think about movies. I think he may have liked it. I liked it much more the second time. If you haven’t seen it, you should check out the Japanese one. It’s cool, because Ring 2 isn’t planned to come out in America. Ring 2 is a lot better than Ring 1, and it also makes Ring 1 better by building upon it. It’s cool, slick, nice, creepy, and enjoyable (afterwords). You should check it out. Ok, back to work

note: picture is of a boy in Ring and Ring2

that’s not a turd is it?

Well, actually it is. Today I was captivated by the heartwarming story of a lonesome turd trying to find it’s place in the world. This korean claymation film’s title translates “doggy poo”. It’s about 45 minutes of breathtaking scenery and claymation combined with mild comptuer animated particle systems (for snow and leaves). Subtitles make it easy to know what’s going on, since the movie is in Korean. It’s interesting how lots of Korean films are sad. A line from My Sassy Girl mentions that “Koreans like sad stories” (all because of ’shower’). Well, this movie about doggie poo is very sad. 90% of the movie is crying. I cried. Well ok no I didn’t. It’s a very interesting movie though.
For those of you who’re thinking of nagging me about it – no – I am not serious. The movie is completely for comedic value, and I do not think it is lovely, touching, graceful, or any of those other girls words.
I watched a cool movie tonight. “Ring” It’s the 1998 Japanese movie that America copied (big time) and called “The Ring”. I haven’t seen the American one yet, but I’m told the Japanese one is 10 times worse. I find that hard to imagine because that Japanese one wasn’t THAT bad… I played it up too ^_^ I turned all the lights off, put the fan on low, and watched it in my room at night alone with surround sound on my tv. It was pretty scary, but not as bad as I expected. I’m going to try to get “Ring 2″. It’s already out. I started the download a few minutes ago. I’m not sure if it’s going to be re-made in America though, if someone knows, pleast let me know, mmk?
Well, no school until Tuesday. I have work tomorrow morning, I’d best be off. Thanks to everyone who added to my record-setting 27 comments on a single post! I’m outta here.

ps: to those of you who told me to change the way I write my blog to make it more interesting to other people, leave me alone.

another morning, a full day

Scott was 17.98 years old when he wrote this!

Well this is a first. I’m writing my post in the morning instead of late at night. This is because today, I will be cleaning my room, and my main workstation will be unplugged for today and possibly still tomorrow. I have a rat’s nest of wires below my desks, and it’s starting to make it difficult to get things done. Plus, cleaning my own things, for me, is somewhat therapeutic and relaxing. It also brings that sense of accomplishment in actually getting something done. One thing I haven’t decided yet, is what to do with my bed. I’m timped to put it in my closet, since I haven’t used it in a few weeks (other than to pile things up on).
Well last night I watched another movie. However it wasn’t the one I was expecting to watch. I was expecting to watch “the last present”. As I sat down, I realized I forgot to download the subtitles. I put in a search/download for them. I knew it might take a little time to get them, so I decided to watch another movie in my evergrowing stack.
This movie was very interesting. I’d give it a 5 out of 10 though. It was fairly long and slow. It had to be to make the plot work, but for the casual viewer, it had little action, little emotion, little humor, little everything, and appeared somewhat empty. It had a plot that was very interesting though. It was another movie from Korea (I have a list of Korean movies a friend told me I should see). It’s a lot like the movie Frequency. 2 people communicating through time (3 years apart). However instead of a ham radio, this is a mailbox. And instead of father/son, it’s a single man and a single woman, separated by time. The plot only had one big twist near the end, and it led into the perfect ending. It was a pretty good movie, but I don’t know how many people I’m going to be sharing it with =o)
Today, I have to do some homework -_- I have that little string of exams tomorrow, and i need to finish up my reviewing! I think most of ‘em will be pretty straightforward. My US govornment test feels like the hardest. (probably because history is by far and away my least favorite and worst subject) Well, I’d best be off!

Scott was 17.98 years old when he wrote this!

Today seemed to flow awkwardly . Things that took minutes seemed so long, things that I spent so much time on seemed to take minutes. I’m not sure as to why yet, however I know it has something to do with a lack of order in the things I do. I seemed to work randomly today. I went to a computer store to get parts to fix a lady’s (lighting-fried) computer…

Ugg it was a mess. Luckily, only the power supply and motherboard were fried. I got it home and started replacing the motherboard. I then realized “crap, she has DIMM ram” and I thought she had DDR… After a lot of thought, I decided to switch it with my own personal workstation motherboard. It has both DIMM and DDR ram support. I kinda got jipped though. The motherboard I gave up had 5 pci slots, an agp slot, an isa slot, and support for both DDR and DIMM ram. The one I bought today only had 3 pci slots, an agp slot, no isa slots, and DDR-only ram slots. However, I do have onboard surround sound, onboard usb and usb2, onboard video, and onboard lan that the one I gave up doesn’t. All in all, I gave up 2 pci slots and saved 3 from having those things onboard. I’d say it was a good trade at this point.

Ok, motherboards swapped, her machine powered up and started windows perfectly. I ran a ram/cpu stress test for 4+ hours on it and it performed beautifully. All is good! She’ll be happy. She even got a better motherboard than she payed for =o)

With her pc packed up and by the door, I decided I wanted to get back to my work on my computer. I put the new motherboard in, my chip in, my ram, all’s good to go. Power on. blank screen. Uhh, video must be shot. After 5 mins of playing with agp/pci video cards and onboard video, I realized it wasn’t video. The ram must be bad. I swapped out my DDR w/ other sticks I had. Uhh, ram’s good. Ram slots must be bad. But wait, both? New motherboard? After a long painful troubleshooting episode, I finally realized what the stupid problem is. The new motherboard is made for Athlon XP chips. My old one could take raw Athlon chips. My chip is a raw Athlon. well… crap! The lady’s good to go w/ her AthlonXP 2600 chip, and I’m here with my plain Athlon and it wont work with my motherboard. Oh, eww, 3v1l scott… Athlon XP 2600 clocks in at 1.4ghz. My Athlon is 1.4ghz. My chip wont work in my motherboard… but it’ll work in hers! Her chip will work in mine! So I swapped. That’s not jipping anyone, right? It’s the same speed chip, I dont know any disadvantages of the Athlon 1.4ghz vs the AthlonXP that’s 1.4ghz… I switched chips, everything’s cool. Her comp works awesome. Mine boots (that’s good for me). I don’t think I jipped her in any way, I don’t feel I got jipped (though I kinda did ^_^) but all is good and I’m happy this stupid computer is out of my life! woohoo! I hope she likes it.

I got my linux leeching downloader machine crankin’ the other night. I started downloading a list of movies. One of them is the one I watched today. It’s called “Lovers’ Concerto”. I was planning to watch a blood & guts movie, but it wasn’t finished downloading yet (that’s my escuse, retaining what masculinity I have) Anyway, it was a pretty good movie. I give it an 8. I can’t say much about it without ruining the movie for anyone who might see it. However, I will mention that lots of korean movies are sad, and this was one of them. It was a movie that had an awesome plot and a great ending. And at the end I thought to myself “was it sad? or was it happy?” It ended in a way that it was both. It was a pretty clean movie too, which was nice. I’d go so far as to say “completely family safe”, with one line of my subtitle .srt file edited slightly ^_^ Because this movie was so ‘emotional’ and had a plot that wrapped around a basic love story that twisted and turned (hence the name, “lovers’ concerto”) I think it could be referred to as a “girl movie”. Therefore, to maintain the all important social-status (I’m in denial that this post hadn’t already KILLED it) I’m going to say that this is a movie I would not recommend to my friends to see, rather it’s one I’d recommend to total strangers to see =o)

If you really want the movie, or any of the others I talk about, contact me and let me know. We’ll talk, and I’ll be more than happy to work something out. I really like sharing these hard-to-get foreign movies. People just don’t get exposed to them any other way. And, yes, the picture on this post is from the movie. And, yes, it’s the same male Korean actor that played Gyeon-woo in “My Sassy Girl”. It was interesting to watch him in this movie, he had a totally different personality and totally different facial expressions. It was a good movie. “but dont take my word for it!” da da da!

Scott was 17.97 years old when he wrote this!

Today I found a small corner of an old hard drive that has lots of backed up information from lots of my old websties. Today and tomorrow I plan to spend some time going through it trying to recover what I can. I’d like to add a section to my site just about my old websites, and another just about old content, and one more to be a timeline of my life.

The old websites page will have screenshots of the basic layouts of as many websites as I still have. Back from my first aol-hosted page 8 years ago where I remember yahooing “how to make an image a clickable link” all the way to my most recent creations. I’d like to keep up with this project, so later, years down the road, I can look at my old creative projects =o)

The old content page will have a giant list (probably) on a single page of old news postings, writings, reviews, pretty much anything I wrote a looong time ago, i’ll put it in html form and dump it there. Not only is it a way to bring back the past, but it’s also a time capsule to preserve it for the future. I’ll have links on the top of the page for key events in time, and when clicked, they scroll down to the right posting.

The final idea I have is a timeline. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to do this, but I’d like to make a giant (vertical) timeline of my life and put key events in. It’d be cool if I could make it in a way that I could keep adding to it every few months. Start with birth, first computer, riding a bike, first built circuit (a radio, I made from a kit, in 2nd grade), then first website, first built computer, track team, misia, and all that good stuff…. misia… /pouts/

I dont intend for anyone to read thsee pages and get much enjoyment out of them ^_^; It’s mainly for me. I love bringing back these old thoughts and positive memories, and want to keep them to hold for my future. Who knows, maybe your comments about this post will last for as long as I live?

note: image on the left is Noir, a girl from a really cool anime series I saw about a year and 1/2 ago. I loved that image and used it in over 10 of my website layouts!

So I’m talkin’ to a friend and I happen to mention that I feel somewhat saddened that nobody ever writes comments to these postings I write. Just now, I logged in to add tonight’s news and I see 12 comments… “12 comments?” I logout, hit my site, and jeez! 10 comments on the last article! Heh, that kid went around and IMed for people to add comments. I had to smile when I read them =o)

Woohoo! I got my leeching machine back on line, trying to download some movies tonight to test it out. I didn’t document it as well as I should have, I’ll probably have to re-do it all. But I’ve spent so much time without it that I really needed it up and finally got around to doing it. So, expect a tutorial on “1337 133CH1NG with Linux” within the next few days.

note: the image is of a shirt I saw that I liked. I think it’s somewhat new, I don’t rememebr it. ThinkGeek.com carries it. For those of you who aren’t overly computer savvy, 127.0.0.1 is a loopback, a shortcut, a null location, a redirection to your own computer. In other words, it’s home.

I KNOW! I never shut up about this movie. Tonight, I played it for two girls, and they got almost though the end of the movie, then they had to go! ahh! it ruined it! But now, I feel really bad X_x one of the girls was riding with someone else. She talked about having a TON of work (homework, I think?) she needed to do, and that she’d be up REALLY late doing it. That was at 8pm. She ended up staying to almost midnight. I feel really bad about it now, I should have offered her a ride home. I thought about it earlier (when I first heard about the homework problem while playing cards) but I was afraid to mention it because “I thought it would have looked weird”… baka-scott, now I feel bad X_x err, changing subject. Let’s see… I’d best back up.

Friday, I’m at work. A little before lunchtime, I get a call. To make a long story short, I had just been informed that I was to leave work early, pack, and get in a car with part of the track team (multiple vehicles) and drive to some other city far from here. I would come back the next day in the mid afternoon. My thoughts? Well, nothing, really. “My cell phone must be breaking up I don’t think I heard you right, could you say that again?”. I had unknowingly requested the story that would become the rest of the day. oh, the irony.

So, yes, I leave work early (yes, losing money) and get home. I find everyone scurrying about packing and getting ready. My parents keep on telling me things to do or pack for the track trip. My parents, the team, the coaches, and the team members’ parents are all in denial of the fact that I’m not on this team anymore -_-

I had a list of things I needed to get done this weekend /shrug/ Looks like I’m going to have to really change that around… I knew my family would go, but I was told I would stay here. I thoght it was the perfect time to get things done =o) The stupid one, I am.

So, how’d it go? Well, it could have been worse. The car ride wasn’t that bad. I rode in a tahoe that only had 5 track team members. (the other seats were of adult passengers). They were all girls. The volume level in the car remained somewhat low, it was a million times better (I was told) than “the van”, which held 15 or so teenage guys. Yeah, anyway, we finally got there and got into our rooms and it was time to sleep.

Teenage guys, overpacked in a hotel room, on caffeine, with nothing to do. Anything could happen. Luckily though, it was pretty good. Other than the occasional flips jumping on beds and random flatulent outbursts, it was pretty calm.

One thing I thought was very interesting was a conversation that started very late at night when people were talking and I was trying to get them to go to sleep. (or was it the other way around?) Anyway, I asked a question (along the lines of) what the guys find attractive in a woman in a non-physical way. I’m not going to write much or anything of their responses here, because I don’t want to embarrass anyone, but I thought it was interesting how people seem to go for personality traits that’re either completely opposite or exactly alike on the psyschological level. Example, if the guy talks a lot, he’d want a girl who’s quiet. On the other hand, if a guy likes making jokes, he’d want a girl that makes jokes too. It was interesting to hear the responses and match them up to the personalities… Someone commented on how they don’t really like to think about it that way, because it limits them to not be able to see people they might go along with well. Somehow, I found it interesting.

You may hear about it from a leaker, and I’ll go on and set the facts. I feel stupid XD but, oh well. I mentioned this to a small handfull of people mainly to get their opinions or thoughts or if nothign else, just to see their reaction. I don’t know why I shared it with a room full of guys, but it was late, and I was stupid. They probably thought nothing of it and will never think about it again, but it seemed like a big deal to me. What was it? Well, It sounds sick, but, “I want to date a blind woman”. However, date, in it’s wording, is poorly expressed. More like, I’d want to be really close friends with a blind woman. I mean, hear me out here. Imagine, being blind. Unable to see. Could you imagine what your outlook on life would be? Could you imagine how different everything would seem?! I find that so fascinating, that’d be so awesome to talk with her =o) I think something like that would also cause someone to become a lot more mature (mentally) in a shoter period of time. “You could not even imagine the thoughts you’d find when you have no where to probe but your own mind”. I think someone like that would be so fun to talk to and get to know ^_^ Now, uh, how to close this paragraph… “If you see any blind, not too talk, prefferably asian women that’re interested, give ‘em my phone number”

Not much else happened. The morning, we woke up, the people ran. OH YEAH! I forgot. hehe ^_^ I’m 3v1l. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but… by the starting line of the cross country race is a road. With a car seated 2 year old, my parents were driving around the area a lot to watch people run. We pulled up by the starting line (right beside some high hedges) and my parents hopped out. I stayed in the car. A few minutes later, this girl (I noticed) was RUNNING to my car. “what the heck?!” I thought to myself. She got closer, and closer, then ran behind the car and RIGHT outside my window. She looked both ways, and dropped. “Did she fall?” It was the weirdest thing. I sat up high to see where she went. I saw the top of her head out the window. “what is she doing?!” 20 seconds later, she hopped up, ran back to hear group, and another girl did the same thing! When I saw her drop, I realized it. “oh my god they’re using my car as cover to go to the bathroom on the grass!” The girl popped up and ran back to the starting line to start the race 30 seconds later (literally). I had to disprove my disturbing thought, so I opened the door to prove to myself it wasn’t what I thought. Well, I opened the door, and, 2 puddles, beside the car. That was… weird.

Today’s writing was long – Somewhere between my writing about feeling guilty about not taking somehone home and talking about girls using my car as a bathroom door, I grew tired. And I will now retire. Goodnight =o)

note: picture is from, big suprise, “my sassy girl”

Lots of things happened today. I don’t think I’m going to write too much though, I’m dead. In a nutshell, I went to school early thismorning and got back mid afternoon, then the track team came over… [um, yeah] … and they just left and now I’m fixing this lady’s computer and about to go to bed.

I’ve started a new project, and for now, it will rise to top priority of my little projects. I’m recovering old websites (especially my old weblogs) and pictures from as many backup disks and hard drives as I can. It’s harder than you’d think, because all the data is scattered all over the place, and lots of it has to be run though a php engine to even work. So, in the next few days, you can expect a “past” link on my site, linking to all this cool old stuff.

I was reading through one of my weblog writings. It was when I wrote more as a journal, only adding a page or two every few months. I’m going to copy/paste a snippet of one that somehow draws me to reading it again and again – but first, some background. At this time, I was in 8′th grade at a school near my house. I was put in that school 1/2 way through the year. I remember feeling cozy and snug being out of place. I wrote “the akwardness is comforting” to describe the feeling =o) Reading this, the flashback-like mental images pulse through my mind. Ok, I’m tired, and I’m starting to sound like a poet. That means, I need to go to sleep.

Woohoo! I’ve acquired a multmedia card from an old junky pc and it has rf, rca, and svideo capture capabilities! I’ll be writing my ‘nix tutorials in a whole new way! Now, I can take crisp clean screenshots of a linux CONSOLE to show things step by step =o) Ahh, the possibilities. This also makes it a ton easier than writing everything. See the image on the left? It’s me playing Perfect Dark (yeah, for the N64). So what if I’m behind the times in games, its what I happened to have around my room to take a capture of. The cable lines to my room are horrible quality. This isn’t that great quality, its bad interlacing, bad jpeg compression, and rca is bad to begin with. an S-video console should be really nice to work with!

note: my video capture card is running on my main linux workstation ^_^

Today’s writing is a little different than the previous handfull. You may have noticed the odd seeming timestamp on this message. That’s right, I’m writing it at 6:12pm. Actually, I just walked in the door, dinner’s almost ready, and I can’t think of much to do now, so I’d might as well write.

Let’s see, I have a lot of stuff I really want to do, and I might actually get some of it done tonight. First off, I want to get my leeching machine up and running. Not only so I can start downloading movies and software again, but also so I can finish writing it’s respective tutorials. I think they’ll be a big hit =o) I told a lot of peopel about this one tutorial the past few days and got a ton of interest. “Step by step instructions on how to set up a file downloading server that adds up the download speed of kazaa, bortorrent, edonkey, directconnect, soulseek, and more to give you one incredibly fast downloading file? When will the tutorial be ready?!” [Scott feels pressured]

/eating dinner/

mmMMmmmMMmmm. Dinner was good. Moving right along, today a conversation was spoken that involved TV, and someone asked “how much does Scott watch tv?” I thought it was interesting, because I interjected in and said “not very much” and later (walking home) pondered the quetsion. TV, by the definition of a live feed from a tv station, doesn’t at all fit what I do. I (by this definition) watch almost zero TV! I have a tv in my room –a nice one. What do I use it for? It’s hooked up to a computer that does not even get TV, rather it plays movies. I spend a few hours a week watching movies (usually foreign films) but when it comes to watching TV, I really dont watch much at all

Classes today were good, I guess. My day starts with music appreciation, the guy’s probably one of the best teachers in the sense of “dang he makes it easy to get an A in this class”. He throuroughly covers everything multiple times, you’d have to be a total idiot NOT to get an A in this class ^_^ After that, my Comp II guy is starting to turn into one of my fav. teachers, he’s so random and different seeming, you can never tell what he’s going to do next. Therefore, I find myself paying close attention in this class, and it works well both ways. US Gvmnt is probably my worst class. Professor walks in, lectures for a solid 2 horus, and walks out. Pages and pages and pages of notes are generated every day, and on top of that this guy’s speaking style is sooo boring. I think I could make some money selling pillows outside his class door. The 2 hour lunch is ok. Tuesdays I get to meet up with Phil, an old friend, and that takes some of the boringness out of it. After that, I’ll usually hang around the cafeteria and find a spot near the TV where I can sit and watch. It’s funny, in the cafeteria there are 2 tvs. One of them is on the left, which plays CNN, another on the right, which plays FOX news ^_^ I don’t know if they did it on purpose, but it’s kinda funny to see the leaning left-side democratic CNN (Clinton News Network) and the leaning right-side republican FOX tv =o) Ok, well, I’d best be off.

So, now what?

I’m not sure… I’m at a point where I have a HUGE list of stuff I should do… I have a whole (separate, mental) list of things I want to do… But I can’t do anything until I finish that stupid list of thigns I need to do. Sheesh. Grr. Akk! [Scott just remembered what he read in a psychology article]. /stands up/ After I type some random gibberish, I will start a new paragraph, on a ligher note! fdsjsfksjldf

Wow, did that actually work? Anyway, I went to work today and met “the new guy”. I’m going to be working a lot with him (we’re coding toward the same thing) and he’s a nice guy. He’s been at work for a little while, but I’ve been in and out and just happened to miss him. He sure knows a lot about microsoft programming and microsoft stuff. It’s funny though, when I went to work last Friday, (forgot to write about it) I turned on my monitor and saw someone logged out of X on my linux machine and tried to turn it off (as a non-root user) with the commands “shutdown” and “bye”. =o)

Well, tonight I plan to do some homework. Some math stuff, and studying for my myth and gvmnt classes. I’ve accumulated a small set of notes in those classes and really need to soak them in. My other classes seem pretty under control, no major work as of yet. My english comp II class scares me though. Despite the first day, we have had no homework, no reading, no assignments, and no writing! This is an english composition class, and we’re not composing! It scares me because I have no clue how he’s grading me at this point, and I like to know my grade, what it is, and that it’s under control. This class scares me to death… But I just go, pay attention, and try to figure this guy out.

To follow up the writing on the previous post, about sleeping on the floor… I thought it was funny, how things unfolded. I told you abuot where and why and how I slept there, and now I slept on the floor twice in a row and jeez I feel so much better. My back doesn’t hurt sleeping in my bed, sleeping on my floor just feels so much better the next day! So, my mom mentioned it tonight at the dinner table. I don’t remember the exact words, but it ran something about “you’re trying to act like an asian person” ::blink:: /shrug/ I feel dumb ^_^;

ps: thanks to steven for telling me to increase the line spacing on my bog, I think it looks nice too, and makes it a lot easier to read.

Ahh, relaxation

Scott was 17.95 years old when he wrote this!

Oh yeah baby, 4 day weekend, feelin’ good uh huh, uh huh, uh huh. A woman dropped off a load of comptuer crap the other day. I’m not one to use the word crap too much, but crap is a very good definition of the load I got. However, in the crap was gold. I got tons of random stuff, including a broken sound system, some old pcs, and a monitor. Outside, I just glanced at it and guessed it to be 15”. I bent down to pick it up and realized “dude, this is 19 inches!” So, yeah, I lucked out there. To make room for it on my desk, I removed one of my 17′’s and ended up rearranging my desk a little. One of the computers I got was a 450mhz Intel Pentium II XEON pc. I’m thinking of switching over to use it as my server. When I took it apart, I realized it had a multimedia card (with rca in, ant in, ant out, and svideo in!). The sound system is a nice sourround sound system with a sub and all – it wasn’t working. That and there was no power adapter. I decided to tackle this problem. I’ll make a long story short and give you the end result. 5 hours later, I figured out the problem, fixed it, and made a power adapter for it. How’d I do that? Well, I gutted an old computer (tx) power supply and used its 12v lines to power the thing ^_^ So this speaker system runs from a computer power supply! Anyway, it sounds amazing. The little subwhoofer is amazing. It’s fairly small but REALLY clear and strong. Hey, I should show some pics of my new monitor!

And that I did. Pictures of my new monitor, my desk, my room, heck I even got my hallway in there. You can take a look and feel free to email me comments, tips, suggestions, insults, whatever. To view these, click the link on the menu “my room” (see? it’s new) and it’ll tell you more than you ever wanted to know.

What’s this about a bed? Ok, this sounds dumb, I haven’t told anyone my thoughts on the subject because I feel really stupid/embarrassed about it and it looks weird because I just brought it up a few weeks ago. Anyway, I was complaining to myself how much stupid room my gosh darn bed takes up. The thing’s huge! And I sleep on it, what, 4 hours every day?! I could have a lot more space in my room if I didn’t have that bed. When my mom saw my new room layout (recently moved furnature around) she kept on asking “why don’t you…” or “what if you…” (trying to get me to move it a differnet way) I kept on ending up “.. then it will run into the bed.” and kept on saying ” beds are so stupid, especially for me, I live in my room, I go no where else, this is my house, and almost 1/4 of it is a bed. I want to get rid of it! People in Korea sleep on the floor ya’ know”…
…why do I bring this up now? Well, last night, as I was rearranging things and fixing that speaker system, I had parts all over my desk and my bed was COVERED with stuff. It’d have taken me 30 minutes just to move it all to the floor. It was really late and I was really tired, so I grabbed my pillow and threw it by my TV. (view the pic, so you can see what I’m talking about). I then went in the hall closet and got an old bed spread, folded it length wise, and layed it on my wood floor. With it as my bed and a pillow, I slept better last night than I ever have in my bed ^_^ Someone told me sleeping on the floor like that is supposed to be really good for your back… I think I’ll have to research this. I don’t think my parents will be all to happy about me bringing up the idea of moving my bed outta here, but I’m not sure what to do. Tonight, I’m gonna do it again, just to see if it was luck that it was so good last night XD At this point, it really looks like beds (american style) are completely stupid. I’ll have to think of soemething to say though, when/if a parent walks in to see a nice clean bed ready for use, and their teenage son on the floor sleeping. Oh well, I’m out for the night – take a look at that new page! See ya’

work with me here! Before I add new posts, I’m working backwards adding old ones. I’ll write here soon – give me time to work (add to the tagboard what you think of the new news system)

I know what you’re thinking – “scott, why a new news system?” and/or “scott, it looks horrible”.

well, to the first one, this new system will be a lot easier to work with and more flexable

to the second, this new news system will be easier to theme. Once I get it working right, i’ll spend some time to make it look nice

I’m loved!

Well I’ll start out explaining my title. I have gotten countless IMs the last 2 days “where’ve you been?” “why don’t you update your weblog?” “scott you’re being lazy, write!”, etc. Ok, well, maybe not counteless IMs, but I’ve gotten at least 10. It always amazes me that in any given day I’ll get ims from about 20 different people, and I only have about 7 on my buddy list XD It works out well though. There’s no real reason for me to add everyone to my list. It sure cuts down on extraneous convos. And anyone who wants to IM me sure can! Though I don’t really care for the windows AIM client, and the whole aim concept isn’t that great (waste of time), it sure it a nice convenient way for anyone to contact me (or leave a message) at any time of the day.

Well, I got someone recently suggesting that I put more space between paragraphs. My natural response would be a quick “oh go lick a wall socket”, but when I thought about it more and more, it seemed like a good idea. So, here’s to you!

Here is a picture of my english comp II class. Ok so I lied. If you dont understand, take a close look at the picture. Notice how many people there are? Anything in common? Gender? Ethnicity? Moving right along, school’s going well. I met someone I knew at lunch today. It was nice talking to someone. Lunches with nothing to do seem to drag out time. Something interesting, however. He had a TG (www.ThinkGeek.com) tshirt on. I had to hand it to the guy, that’s pretty cool to wear a black thinkgeek shirt in the middle of the summer! That’s determination! It made me want to cry. I wanted to give a speech that would one day become famous, about the rise of the machines aginst us humans. But I had this itch on my earlobe and I didn’t feel up for giving a giant speech at the time. I realized I have 5 ThinkGeek shirts that I have never worn on campus. My family (mainly my sister) glomps, clobbers, tackles… I can’t think of the word. Picture a giant flying squirl leaping off a tree and langing on me causing me to crash to the ground. Me wearing a TG shirt would be “devastating to my social status”, she claims. Seems like a valid claim. But after a moment’s pause, I finally asked myself. “what social status?” ^_^

You know what I realized I hate? It’s not a peev – it’s something different. I hate it, yet I’m somehow fascinated by it. Walking from Comp II to Gvmnt today, I was stick in a narrow hallway in a cluster of people moving in my direction. The little groups of peple (2 or 3) would be talking to eachother and I (not being rude, but just out of boredom) find myself catching bits and pieces of convo. And my, was it boring. But then, in front of me, 3 girls start going off in Chinese, then laughing a lot. “dang, I wish I knew Chinese”. I felt so left out XD Then, on my right, 2 people are laughing and talking in Thai. “dang, I wish I knew Thai”. And, to top it off, behind me, 2 people were talking in czechoslovakian. “dang, I wish I knew how to at least spell that on my own”. It’s not like I hate being around it, I like it somehow, it fascinates me – but I have a strange desire… a longing… to know how to talk in a foreign language. No, spanish does NOT count as a foreign language =op

A problem I’ve been having for many years is this: my room is the only room with a summer-sun facing window (that happens to be 5 feet wide and 12 feet tall). The heat in my room in the summer is AMAZING. Why’s it so bad? As if that freaking window weren’t enough, my room is the only room in the house that does NOT have AC. Well, technically, it has a vent, but it’s been broken ever since I’ve lived here. (0 air comes out). In the summer, the heat in here is so bad, even with 2 full time fans on I have to wear lite shorts and a tshirt to try to stay cool – and even so, in the daytime, my hair dripps sweat while simply sitting at my computer.

Obvious solution? Yeah, well, 2, actually. We could get someone out here to see about fixing my ac. But that costs money. However, I’d happily pay a few hundred bucks to get ac in my room. It’s miserable in here in the summer. I come here for lunch or to look up something, and when I leave to go somewhere I either have to change my clothes or live with the sweat all over them. The other alternative is a small ac unit for my room. I could put it in the bottom of my window. It’d work out great, and be hidden, since a desk covers the base of my window and bushes cover the bottom of the window from outside. However when I mentioned it to my parents, my mom was ok with iy, my dad said no…

Obvious cause? Computers. No freaking teenager has 10 computers in his room. It is hot in his room. Therefore, the comptuers cause the heat. My dad really don’t agree with my having more than 1 computer in the first place, so a few years ago when i first brought up the “lets do something about the temp” issue, the answer was a firm “no dont talk to me about it again” /shrug/

So, why’d I bring it up again? Well I have some new info. Kelly’s friend was over a few nights ago, and I hate having people watch my sleep XD I closed my door all night. Also, I note, I had more comps in my room than ever before. Well, middle of the night, can’t sleep, go get some water, and I notice something… Even with door closed and all heat locked in my room – it’s the same temp as the kitchen… I think 99.5% of the heat of my room is from the sun / no ac, which also explains why its only hot in the day, and fine at night. With this new info, I tried talking to my parents about it again. My mom thought it’d be something worth fixing, my dad (after a long ‘talk’) pulled the “no, no matter what you say or show or prove to me, my answer will never change” /shrug/ I’m not sure what to do, and its getting pretty bad in here these days. Yes, its true, his comment “it’s only bad like this 5 months out of the year.” but jeez! this is really stupid. If it’d happened to any place he spends any time he’d have fixed it instantly -_- I’m not sure where to go with this one, not much I can do unless…

OPERATION HIRRICANE RETALLIATION
mission objective: to cool scotts room by ventalating it instead of truly cooling it
mission results: scotts room will cool off, other rooms in house will get hotter
mission steps:
1.) purchase 3 monster-power mini 12” floor circular fans
2.) place fans side by side
3.) turn on fans full blast
4.) observe cold air rush in, and hot hair flood the rest of the house.
mission failure options:
a.) use ice water to place bare feet in while sitting at desk
b.) move out of here
note 1: a sounds bad, I’m already pretty sick, I dont know if that sounds healthy.
note2: b is starting to look better and better

and with that, I depart! goodnight, strange world.
